I feel that my combined skills as a vet, a surgeon and a small business owner equip me to combine high-level surgical standards with professional delivery of service.
Ewen graduated from Murdoch University in 1994 and spent two years in mixed practice in the UK. His early interest in orthopaedics was encouraged by the owners under their supervision. This enabled him to start developing skills in cruciate repair, patella surgery and fracture repair.
After a number of years as an associate veterinarian, he purchased Jandakot Vet Hospital in 2005 and continued to pursue an interest in orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery, combined with the challenges of working as a vet and managing a small business.
Jandakot Vet Hospital was sold to Vetwest Animal Hospitals in 2014. From that time, his skills were put to use and soon became their ‘in-house’ orthopaedic surgeon for clinics south of the river, routinely performing orthopaedic procedures such as TTO, de-Angelis, MLP, FHO, fracture repair plating, and other soft tissue procedures such as BOAS correction, salivary sialocoeles, axial pattern skin flaps, urethrostomy, and ear canal ablations.
In 2018 he was able to formalise his experience by passing written and oral exams for membership with the ANZCVS in small animal surgery. Since then he has attended numerous courses, webinars and workshops on orthopaedic surgery.
Since starting SAO in 2019, Ewen has been busy visiting vet hospitals from Geraldton down to Margaret River, and everything in between. In the last 5 years, he has successfully performed over 1500 TPLO surgeries, hundreds of MPL surgeries, fracture repairs, and many soft tissue procedures.
Aaron graduated from Murdoch University in 2009 and spent his first 2 years spread across emergency consulting, general practice and mobile vet work around the Bicton/Fremantle area. He always had a strong interest in surgery, taking on anything that was trusted to a brave new graduate.
From there, Aaron worked in the Northern Territory for a few years spending a large amount of that time in remote Indigenous Communities. He was able to build experience in versatility, performing surgeries with limited resources on the back of utes under shaded trees across various isolated regions of the outback.
Upon returning to Perth, he spent a short period as a surgery intern at Perth Veterinary Specialists. This allowed him to gain exposure to more advanced surgical cases and procedures whilst also improving his quality of work.
Transitioning to emergency work at Emergency Vet Hospital, he improved his skills in soft tissue surgeries such as GDVs, foreign body surgeries and wound repairs.
The next move was as a GP surgeon at West Coast Veterinary Hospital. For the past 5 years, he regularly performed a large array of surgeries such as large mass removals, caesareans, cystotomies, urethrostomies, splenectomies, intestinal resection/anastomoses, BOAS corrective surgeries, TECA+LBOs as well as orthopaedics including extracapsular cruciate repairs, MPL, TPLO, FHNO, partial tarsal arthrodesis and various fracture repairs. To subsidise his passion in surgery, he attained his ANZCVS membership in Small Animal Surgery in 2017.
Aaron joined SAO in 2022 and is a valued member of the team. He’s successfully performed hundreds of TPLOs, MPL, fracture repairs and countless soft tissue surgeries.

Booking online is simple and fast. 1. Choose the procedure, 2. Select an available timeslot, and upload any radiographs if needed. You take responsibility for taking pre and post operative radiographs if needed, anaesthesia and nursing care before, during and after the procedure, dressings, bandage care and medications.
